Career Education
The Careers Department at Epsom Girls Grammar is here to support students in their pathway and career decision making process. We encourage students to critically evaluate their choices and decisions, helping them to consider their whole selves, including but not limited to personality preferences, interests, values and skills.
Option Selection Information can be found here in the Career Education Pathways booklet 2025
It is recommended that you refer to this booklet when choosing subjects for the following year at EGGS.
This booklet shows both Required subjects and Recommended subjects.
Recommended subjects are just that, and are not pre-requisites. They may help prepare a student for a course of study but you should not feel bound by them.
However a Required subject is just that.
Please note that there are not many degrees that have subject requirements, the main exceptions being Engineering, or Health Sciences at the University of Auckland.
CAREERS CENTRAL
The online career development tool Career Central is used throughout the school to support students’ career planning. Students can access this easy to use programme using their Kamar username and password.
This programme is also used in Year 9, 10 and 11 Health classes.
Career Central is a comprehensive tool that takes students through the important steps of self knowledge, through to recommending subjects, tertiary pathways (if needed) and career suggestions.
Option Selection information can also be viewed here. Please also see each University website for specific entry requirement information.

All students at EGGS are welcome to book an appointment with the Careers Department. This is more appropriate for senior students who can utilise their study period or lunchtime so as not to interrupt their subject studies.
When students are in Year 13 we offer individual career development sessions to each student, so that we can discuss their plans and goals. This process is conversational and may involve identifying their work values, interest threads, and considering the best way forward to a specific career path.

Ms. Leask or Ms. Ryan , during term times.
We also welcome parents and caregivers if there is a real concern.
Year 13 Monday career talks, Whai Te Pae Tawhiti and Pasifika Futures, Pathways Information Evening, university presentations and course planning, assistance with CVs and cover letters and interview practice are some of the other services we offer to students at Epsom Girls.
Monday University Talks
Different tertiary providers visit EGGS on Mondays in term 1,2 and 3 to help Year 13 students with course planning. This is an excellent opportunity for students to learn more about the degree and pathway options available for them.
